1 Samuel 18: 1-5
When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 2 Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house. 3Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as his own soul. 4 Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that he was wearing and gave it to David and his armor and even his sword and his bow and his belt. 5 David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him; as a result, Saul set him over the army. And all the people, even the servants of Saul, approved.
When David and Johnathan met, something extraordinary happened; their souls recognized each other. It was the kind of connection that makes the journey feel less lonely, the kind that reminds you that some people are meant to walk alongside you. Jonathan didn’t just call David a friend, but he equipped him, honored him and committed to the path ahead with him. Their friendship became a shelter, a compass and a source of courage in a world that felt uncertain and ever-changing.
Adventure often looks like mountains, forests, open roads and big leaps of faith, but sometimes the real adventure is found in the people placed on our path. The ones who become “bound to our soul” in a way that feels steadying. The ones who see our potential before we see it ourselves. The ones whose presence makes the unknown feel less intimidating.
To adventure is to step into the places that wake our spirit, to meet discomfort with courage, to welcome the ups, downs and unexpected turns, and to trust that the unknown can shape us in ways comfort never will. I’ve always seen life as one incredible journey made up of countless smaller ones. Some paths I walk alone, but I’ve learned that the adventures shared with friends often leave the deepest mark. They stretch me, steady me and remind me that belonging is one of the greatest gifts we find along the way of this incredible journey that's called life.
