John 21
This is the story of after Jesus’ death and he comes back while a group of disciples are out fishing. They aren't catching any fish and then some stranger on the shore tells them to fish off the right side of the boat. Instead of arguing, giving the stranger a weird look, or making a comment, they say ok and do it.
It reminds me of my favorite show Fisk. It’s an Australian comedy on Netflix about a probate lawyer. They hire a young man because his mom is dating one of the lawyers. His name is Bubby and he’s his mommy’s sweet baby boy. Well, he is a terrible employee and does lots of things for himself and none at all for the office. He drinks several energy drinks everyday at work. Then he complains about how he isn’t able to sleep and has terrible anxiety. The lawyer that hired him suggests that it might be all the energy drinks he is consuming. He immediately and emphatically says “No.” Instead of arguing, the lawyer just says “okay.”
I think it is human nature to judge what others tell us and that we know best. What a miracle that the disciples just did what the stranger suggested without argument.
